Description

In response to a knock at their front door, a young member of the Lefkowitz family opened the door just a crack for the visitor. Rav Michel Yehudah called him aside and explained, "When you open the door like that, the visitor gets the feeling that he is unwanted. We must open a door with the middah of 'sever panim yafos - a happy countenance,' all the way, so the visitor feels fully welcome."

Rav Michel Yehudah - the name conjures a smile, a feeling of warmth and security. The gadol who was always learning, yet had patience like Hillel for every Yid. His heart brimmed with ahavas Hashem and ahavas Yisrael. He dealt with the problems of the generation and those of individuals with equal attention.

Born to a simple family and an elderly father, he chose goals and stuck to them. His perseverance and diligence, not pedigree or genius, allowed him to mature into the giant he became. An eager talmid, he drank thirstily from his great rebbeim - Rav Shlomo Heiman, the Chazon Ish, Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer, and Rav Leib Chasman - and then ably passed that mesorah to thousands of his own talmidim over the course of his seventy years in chinuch.

In The Heart of a Nation, you will discover how this unique gadol developed, how he taught, and how he lived. This is not a mere biography, but a collection of stories that make a point or give a message - lessons that inspire and help one grow in Torah and yiras Shamayim. With over 400 photos and documents, many previously unpublished, here is a sefer to enjoy and learn from again and again.
